He was born in 1974 and is from Osaka prefecture.
After graduating with a literature degree from Kyoto University, he entered Kyoto Animation. He studied production under Yoshiji Kigami. “Power Stone” was his directorial debut, and since then he’s been involved with “Weekly Story Land,” “Atashin’chi,” and many other projects.

His first work as an animation director was on “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya” in 2006. He wrote the song lyrics to the song used in the story within a story of “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya ” called “The Mikuru Love Legend” and directed the ending theme song’s animation. This ending animation, called the “Haruhi Dance,” experienced a world wide boom.
His first work as a series director was on “Lucky☆Star” in 2007. That same year he formed the animation studio Ordet and became it’s president.

He has been featured in the media for a variety of things other than animation, such as his writing ability and various talents.
In 2010 he directed the live action film “Watashi no Yasashikunai Senpai”, and that same year he won the TAMA Cinema Forum award for best up and coming director. He is currently publishing a serialized novel called “Einsatz” in “Monthly Animedia.”
After the Touhoku Earthquake on March 11, 2011, he took an active role in the reconstruction and charity work.
